Perfect Who?

No one is perfect. We all make mistakes, have weaknesses and daily struggles (Ecclesiastes 7:20; Romans 3:23). It’s all part of the process to grow and mature spiritually. Religious people say, “To serve God it has to be this way and that way” and judge everything. No, stop. Have you not seen how God works all things together for good? (Romans 8:28). God has this outstanding sense of humor and he brings the greatest plot twists to occur, things we could never think of or imagine.

Now let’s pin this on the side for a second. And let me ask this. Instead of talking judgment of others or even about yourself like religious people, why don’t we ask the good questions? The critical who, what, when, why, where questions. Ask this, with what I’m currently going through, who can this reach? Why is she or why am I going through this situation? What is the purpose behind my limited perspective at the moment? How can this be applied as a lesson and be turned around for good and to glorify God?

Let’s bring the story about David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17), and how David killed the great giant, Goliath. Oh you know, David was brave. And oh you know, David was greatly used by God. Many people are like, “Oh man, I want to be like David”. Okay, let me stop you right there. Have you taken a second to ask the good critical questions about David’s life?

How did everything really come to happen? Was it instantaneous? No, it was a process. When did David’s process start? At a young age. Did David know God was going to use him to defeat this specific giant named Goliath? No. Now, why did God choose him, David? And why has God chosen me and you to defeat giants?

Okay, before defeating the giant.. you can read 1 Samuel chapter 17, in regards to the battle. Yeah, David was not a warrior of the Israelite army, he was young. David wasn’t big and strong like the other warriors or like Goliath. So what? David was a shepherd and killed lions and bears protecting his sheep. You are someone like David, that has been slaying lions and bears protecting others, such as your community, family and friends. Don’t let anything or anyone hold back your faith and will to pick up the stones to get ready for battle, understand that it’s a process.

If you keep waiting until the day you are perfect, to serve and follow God, you’ll stay waiting until the day you die. Don’t let fear, shortcomings, mistakes, the past, or shame hold you back from who God has called you to be. You are called to be holy. You have been called from darkness into the light (1 Peter 2:9). Emphasis on the, “from darkness” and into the light. There is no shame in coming out from the darkness. What is a shame, is to know that you are in darkness and you choosing to stay there.

Let God use you as you are, in your times of weakness to embarrass the strong, the prideful and religious cowards (1 Corinthians 1:26-30). Believe that even when God is not finished with you, he can and will use you for greater things. Just say, “Here I am Lord, as I am, send me”.
